Description

"It is a bit like my being annoyed to be called a woman painter—instead of just a painter"

ALS, three pages, 8.25 x 7.75, February 21, 1971. Handwritten letter to "Jackie," in part: "So many write wanting to come that I couldn't possibly cope with it if I let them come—so I almost always say no—or say nothing at all. Particularly this winter because I do not want to catch a cold—I have seen very few of the people in this area that I might call friends—have very seldom had anyone for lunch or dinner…I understand your feeling of not wanting to come—it is a bit like my being annoyed to be called a woman painter—instead of just a painter. However, do as you will. I will be glad to have you if you change your mind." Handsomely double-matted and framed with a portrait to an overall size of 43 x 18.5. In fine condition.
