American boxing official and announcer (1872-1936) who was one of the most popular fight announcers from the turn of the 20th century up until the 1930s. In his nearly 50-year career, Humphreys was estimated to have announced over 20,000 boxing matches and officiated many of the top prize fights of the era as the longtime official ring announcer at the old Madison Square Garden from 1925 up to his death in 1936. Two Second National Bank and Trust Company checks, 6.25 x 2.75, dated to October 22 and November 25, 1931, both filled out and signed by Joe Humphreys, who pays $25 to Vincent Duffy and $25 to the Anawanda Club. In overall fine condition, with some irregular toning to one of the checks.
