Description

Republican lawyer and politician (1869-1931) who was Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1925 to 1931, and husband of Alice Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt’s daughter. TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, The Speaker's Rooms, House of Representatives letterhead, September 9, 1927. Letter to the Commissioner of Pensions, in part: "I am interested in the case of William J. Calloway, 1615 Harrison Avenue, Cincinnati. He is a Spanish War Veteran, Company L, 18th U.S. Infantry, original number 1567,600. He was examined for pension May 4th, 1927, but has had no report from your commission." In very good to fine condition, with scattered pencil notations and torn file holes.
