Description

Grandson (1838-1894) of King Louis Philippe I, who was disputedly King of the French from February 24-26, 1848 as Louis Philippe II, although he was never officially proclaimed as such. ALS signed “L. P. D'Orleans, Comde de Paris,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, York House letterhead, June 4, 1868. Handwritten letter to a "General," in part: "I answer to your inquiries about the members of my family who are as anxious as I am to witness the trials of the 16th. I take the liberty to name my two Uncles the Prince de Joinville and the Duke d'Aumale, my brother the Duke de Chartres and my cousin the Duke de Penthievre. If it was not an indiscretion I would be very glad to bring with me the Marquis de Beauvoir and his son the Count de Beauvoir presently staying with me: but if the number of tickets is in any way limited I hope that you will consider that as a non avenue." Affixed to a slightly larger card and in fine condition, with scattered small stains.
