Sought-after limited edition one-sided 12″ promo single of Prince’s "Gett Off," accompanied by a copy of the internal press release from his Paisley Park studios. The press release (on Paisley Park Enterprises letterhead, dated June 17, 1991) describes this special “birthday release,” as an “official bootleg.” It also describes plans for an upcoming tour, Prince’s new look as “Godfather III meets Barbarella” as well as mentioning Miles Davis, Spike Lee, Patti Labelle, and others. It includes a fax stamp at the top dated July 9, 1991, and a rusty paper-clip stain in the top left corner.
This special vinyl pressing was limited to 1500 copies to be gifted to close friends and industry insiders in honor of Prince’s 33rd birthday on June 7, 1991. Upon its distribution, this 10-minute version of the song was only available in this format. The sleeve—that features Prince’s own “handrawn artwork” (sic), according to the press release—has a few wrinkles, but the vinyl appears to be in un-played mint condition. To date, no copies of this rare limited vinyl has been sold accompanied by the Paisley Park press release. From the collection of an early Prince insider.
