Eldest son of Robert E. Lee, who served as a Confederate general and aide-de-camp to Jefferson Davis (1832-1913). Partly-printed DS, signed “G. W. C. Lee,” one page, 19 x 15.5, June 24, 1874. Desirable master of arts diploma from Washington & Lee University issued to William Wirt Henry Harris for having "successfully completed the required course of study in the Schools of Latin, Greek, English, Moral Philosophy, History, Mathematics, Chemistry and Geology, Natural Philosophy, French, German and English Literature.” Signed in ink by George Washington Custis Lee as the university's president, and also signed by faculty members and trustees, including several prominent ex-Confederates, including John Echols, William McLaughlin, William Allen, William T. Poague, and others. In very good to fine condition, with creasing to the margins and the original seal missing.
