French violinist and composer (1771-1842) who studied the violin under Giovanni Battista Viotti and taught at the Conservatoire de Paris together with Pierre Rode and Rodolphe Kreutzer. Baillot's teachings had a profound influence on technical and musical development in an age in which virtuosity was openly encouraged. Scarce LS signed “Baillot,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.5 x 9, June 11, 1815. An untranslated letter from Pierre Baillot, who signs with a wonderful paraph that incorporates his home address and a small sketch of a roadway. In very good condition, with overall foxing and mottled toning, and seal-related paper loss to the bottom edge.
