Western Electric amount gyro in a gold-plated cylindrical case, measuring approximately 4″ x 4″ x 8.5″, with the manufacturer's label on top: "Amount Gyro, 8171000, Western Electric GA-10119, Serial No. W-112682." The side is labeled: "Fragile, Delicate Instrument, Handle With Care." This gyroscope assembly was used in the Nike missile stabilization system. The Nike was a radio-guided missile but used a gyroscope-based system for stabilization. The internal gyroscope device spins freely. The base of the unit has four holes for mounting, with electrical contacts on the bottom. Exhibits some scratches to the case.
