Description

FBI agent and archetypical ‘G-Man’ (1903-1960) responsible for the capture of John Dillinger, ‘Pretty Boy’ Floyd, ‘Baby Face’ Nelson, and other notorious gangsters. Uncommon hand-addressed and signed airmail envelope, 6.75 x 3.75, addressed by Purvis to his wife, "Mrs. Melvin Purvis, Cherokee Road, Florence, South Carolina," with his vertical censorship signature to the left side, "Melvin Purvis," and his return address incorporating his name a third time, "Lt. Col. Melvin Purvis." Postmarked by the U.S. Army A.P.O. on January 29, 1944. In fine condition. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
