American soldier (1839-1925) who is the only man to serve as an officer in the Civil War, Indian Wars, and Spanish-American War, celebrated as the captor of Geronimo. ALS, signed "Nelson A. Miles, M. G. U. S. Army," three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, embossed Chicago World's Fair letterhead, July 14, circa 1892. Handwritten letter from the "Office of Colonel Rice, Commd'g Columbian Guard." In part: "I have tried to find you but without success. Should this reach you this time please meet me at Old Vienna and take dinner with me, would be pleased to have you bring…any friends with you." In very good to fine condition, with several stains.
