This is a pair of 7x7º8’ binoculars that have 85-90% of the original black enamel finish remaining, and some flaking to the underlying gray metal on the exposed edges and projections. The stippled finish on the lens housings is likewise very good, with no severe flaking or wear evident. The optics are usable, but somewhat cloudy, and the range-finding stadia in the right eyepiece are still clear and legible. The left ocular lens housing has a mechanical fault and rotates freely without changing the focus. The binoculars are housed in the original hard-sided, rubberized canvas case with intact canvas carry strap, empty filter case on the interior of the lid, and a functional, but tattered leather closure tab. This is a good example of a seldom seen pair of variant Japanese binoculars.
