French archaeologist (1778-1867) who was the elder brother of Jean-François Champollion, the decipherer of the Rosetta Stone. Partly-printed DS, in French, signed “J. J. Champollion,” one page, 3.75 x 2.5, February 7, 1831. A pass to enter the Manuscript Department at the National Library of France in Paris, which is referred to here as the Bibliothèque du Roi, or King's Library. Signed at the conclusion by Jean Francois Champollion as curator administrator. In fine condition, with trivial loss to the corner tips.
