Description

French artist (1881-1955) best known for his brightly colored, cubist and machine-age-influenced abstractions. ALS in French, signed twice at the conclusion, “F. Leger” and “Fernand Léger,” one page, both sides, 8.25 x 10.5, penned boldly at the bottom of a typed letter from Armand-Jean Cauliez of Parisian magazine Cinema, dated June 18, 1949. Leger’s bold handwritten letter is untranslated; however, it is assuredly an in-depth response to a survey question posed by Cauliez, who asks Leger (translated): “Is there a new cinematographic avant-garde?” The typed letter has been struck through in pencil by a secretarial hand. In fine condition, with short splits to the ends of the central horizontal fold.
