Description

Pristine completed 1983 Apple logo latch hook rug

Apple Computer logo latch-hook rug wall hanging sold through Apple’s 1983 Gift Catalog with the following item caption: ‘Have hours of enjoyment creating your own latch-hook rug. Everything is included in your kit to produce a 100% polyester and acrylic rug that can also double as a wall-hanging. Imagine the compliments when friends discover that you did all the work!" The tufted rug measures 34.5″ x 34″ and prominently features Rob Janoff’s iconic rainbow Apple logo centered against an off-white background. Attractively framed and in very fine condition.

This completed rug, which was sold as 'A Latch-Hook Rug Kit,' was inspired by the wall hanging artwork of Myra Burg, who, in 1983, was commissioned by Steve Jobs to create a limited edition of 25 wall hangings that were also sold in their upcoming Apple Gift Catalog; whereas the rug kits sold for $75, each Burg rug was priced at $350. Burg ultimately created a total of 27 Apple logo latch hook rugs, the last two of which she presented to Jobs and Steve Wozniak.

The consignor notes that this Apple rug originates from Alpha Computers of Richland, a computer shop in Richland, Washington, that was owned by her father in the early 1980s. The store specialized in Apple computer products and provided customers with repair services as well as hands-on computer training. This wall-hanging rug was displayed proudly behind the store's front counter.
