While he painted a variety of subjects in various media, his fame rests primarily on his evocative, penetrating society portraits. Third-person ALS, one page, 4.5 x 7, November 17, [no year]. Handwritten letter accepting an invitation, in full: "Mr. Sargent accepts with pleasure Sir Henry Thompson's kind invitation to dinner on Friday, Dec. 11th at 7.30 o'clock." In fine condition, with some light soiling. A fine letter that illustrates Sargent's wide social circle—Thompson was a British surgeon and polymath who also dabbled in art.
