Vellum manuscript DS in French, signed “P. P. IX,” one page, 13 x 8, October 29, 1876. Document conferring an apostolic benediction, in full (translated): "Carlos Cordonnier officer in the Pontifical Zouaves humbly prostrate at the feet of Your Holiness implore the Holy Apostolic Blessing, for him and his wife." Affixed to a same-size mount and in very good to fine condition, with faint staining and light soiling. Accompanied by an unsigned carte-de-visite portrait of Pope Pius IX, and an 1861 manuscript document with a detailed engraving of St. Peter's Square, matted to an overall size of 13 x 14.
