LS, one page, 7.75 x 8.75, April 8, 1848. Letter to Ransom Cook, in part: "In the absence of the Attorney General, the Secretary of State and Comptroller have concluded to purchase the 'Machinery Tools &c' mentioned in the Report of Messrs. Throop & Comstockā¦for the sum of Twenty four hundred ninety three & 98/100 dollars." In fine condition. Fillmore was the first comptroller of New York to be elected, the post having previously been appointed by the state legislature. In that office, he was a member of the state canal board, supported its expansion, and saw that it was managed competently.
