Striking 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Robert E. Lee in an unusual half-length pose, dressed in his Confederate uniform jacket but without insignias of rank, crisply signed on the mount in ink, "R. E. Lee." Reverse bears an affixed two-cent revenue stamp. In fine condition, with a couple tiny edge stains. The portrait is attributed to Michael Miley of Rockbridge County, Virginia, taken in the summer of 1866, though the mount is unmarked.
