Born Prospero Lorenzo Lambertini (1675-1758), Benedict XIV reigned as pope from 1740 until his death in 1758. Known as for his scholarly intellect and keen morals, he promoted science and laid the groundwork for the Vatican Museum. Autograph endorsement signed by the future Pope Benedict XIV as "Cardinale Lambertini," penned on the reverse of a manuscript in Italian concerning a dispute between Cesare Zamboni and Pellegrino, one page, 7.25 x 10.75, March 8, 1739. In very good to fine condition, with a light stain affecting the signature.
