French military commander (1653-1734) who was an illustrious general of King Louis XIV, celebrated for his victories in the War of the Spanish Succession. He became one of only six Marshals to have been promoted Marshal General of France. LS in French, signed “Duc de Villars,” one page both sides, 8 x 12.75, January 26, 1731. Untranslated letter signed by the Duke of Villars. In fine condition.
