Description

Irish political leader (1775-1847) best known for his tireless efforts on behalf of Catholic Emancipation and the repeal of the Act of Union which combined Ireland and Great Britain. ALS, five pages on three sheets, 4.75 x 7.75, April 29, 1827. Boldly penned handwritten letter to a lord, in part: "I feel extremely grateful for your Lordship's kind attention and most interesting information—the conduct of Lord Lansdowne deserves the highest praise and most unmeasured confidence…The Whigs have proved that they are actuated by the most pure disinterested and noble motives—What a fine reputation do they afford of the indiscernible slander of public men." He goes on to comment on further political matters, commenting on other politicians and the "popularity of the new administration." In fine condition, with minor mounting remnants to edges.
