ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 7.75, February 7, 1901. Handwritten letter to bookseller A. S. Clark in New York City, in full: "Allow me to thank you for your promptness in sending the Harpers, and for your memorandum of my account. The binder now tardily informs me that I lack the numbers of the Atlantic for July, Aug., and Sept., 1899. Will you not kindly send them, untrimmed edges? Assuming that the price, with postage, is the same as the Harpers sent, I enclose fifteen cents in stamps, to raise my 60¢ balance to 95¢. If this is not enough, please let me know." In very good to fine condition, with moderate-to-heavy irregular toning to the first page.
