American writer (1849-1909) known for her local color works set in New England. ALS signed “S. O. Jewett,” one page, 4.5 x 7, October 16, 1887. Handwritten letter to "Mr. Griffith," in part: "I have received your notice of a compilation of extracts from Maine Authors and I will send you something when I return to South Berwick, where I can look over my books, etc." In very good condition, with scattered staining from adhesive residue to reverse.
