ALS signed “O. W. Holmes,” one page, 4.5 x 7, February 3, 1883. Handwritten letter to writer and editor Charles Dudley Warner, best remembered as the co-author of The Gilded Age with Mark Twain. In full: "I am making certain inquiries looking to the possibility, nothing more at present of my undertaking the Memoir of Emerson. I shall very soon be able to give you the answer I promised to give you before this but could not." In fine condition. Warner served as editor for Houghton Mifflin's 'American Men of Letters' series of biographies. Holmes contributed the volume on the great transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson, published in 1885.
