TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, North Ocean Boulevard letterhead, February 17, 1969. Letter to Paul M. Stevens, the director of the Radio and Television Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, in part: “I am tremendously interested in your film project on mental retardation. Without going into detail, let me say that an epidemic of measles is expected within two years, and as a result many mentally retarded babies will be born unless necessary precautions are taken. For this reason, I should deeply appreciate any attention you could give to this particular phase of the problem…Our great hope is to have a day for compulsory vaccination against measles for children in all states of the Union, just as there is compulsory vaccination now for smallpox. We have not yet been able to realize this goal, but we are extremely encouraged by the progress which is being made, and particularly by the interest and dedication of many individuals like you.” In fine condition.
