Significant 2.5 x 425 carte-de-visite photograph of Mormon leader Brigham Young in a fine head-and-shoulders pose, with his name inked in an unknown hand on the mount. Reverse bears an ornate gilt backstamp: "C. R. Savage, Pioneer Art Gallery, East Temple Street, Salt Lake City, Utah." In fine condition, with minor corner tip dings and light surface marks. Charles Roscoe Savage was a British-born landscape and portrait photographer most notable for his images of the American West; he converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in his youth, and moved to Salt Lake City in the 1860s where he established a successful photography studio.
