American composer, artist, and teacher (1876-1971) known for employing 'dissonant counterpoint' in his ultramodernist works. Rare original ink-and-watercolor painting of a dried leaf accomplished by the composer-painter Carl Ruggles on an off-white 6.75 x 5 sheet, signed in the lower right in ink, "Carl Ruggles, 40." Mounted and framed to an overall size of 11 x 9, and also titled and signed on the backing: "Leaf Series No. 2, Carl Ruggles, 40." In fine condition, with staining to the frame's backing.
