Original issue of The Pennsylvania Packet, and Daily Advertiser, four pages, 11.25 x 18.5, May 18, 1789. Under an "America" heading on page two, the newspaper contains a statement issued at Boston on May 8, in part: "Our warmest and most heartfelt congratulations attend our friends and the public, upon the final and perfect organization of the Federal Government, by the acceptance of his Excellency the President, with the solemnities prescribed by the Constitution. His replies to the various addresses of his fellow-citizens do the highest honor to his character, in the complex view of a citizen and a statesman; it being difficult to determine, whether or he appears most engaging in the amiable display of his feelings as a man, or of his virtues as a patriot." In fine condition, with scattered light staining.
