ALS signed “Clyde W. Tombaugh,” one page, 8.5 x 11, New Mexico State University letterhead, November 29, 1989. Handwritten letter responding to questions on astronomy, in part: "You ask some very profound questions. You can't believe everything you read in newspapers; because most reporters do not really understand the concepts of Astronomy. Scientists are often misquoted, or misunderstood. Astronomers do not really know what quasars are. There are several controversial interpretations, which are now being hotly debated. Quasars exhibit very large red-shifts, which are interpreted as being very distant. We do not know whether the Universe is finite or infinite. The universe may not even have an edge. If so, the expression is meaningless. Many astronomers claim that the universe originated in a Big Bang about 15 to 20 billion years ago. I am not even sure of that." In fine condition.
