Description

Revolutionary War-dated manuscript vellum DS, one page, 33.5 x 26, March 16, 1769. An impressively large indenture signed in the lower border by multiple trustees of Dr. Richard Busby’s charity, which still exists to this day, who were some of the most prominent British politicians of the time. The signatories are highlighted by the presence of William Cavendish-Bentinck, 3rd Duke of Portland, and Charles Watson-Wentworth, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham, both of whom served as Prime Minister of Great Britain. The other signers include: Thomas Osborne, 4th Duke of Leeds; Daniel Finch, 8th Earl of Winchilsea; William Legge, 2nd Earl of Dartmouth; Heneage Finch, 3rd Earl of Aylesford; and William Murray, 1st Earl of Mansfield. The upper left retains the original paper seal and the lower autograph border retains the original red wax seals. In very good to fine, folded condition. An attractive 'who's who' of British politics from the late 18th century, many of whom were involved in the legislation that brought about the American Revolution.
