Description

Commodore (1772-1840) in the United States Navy who served in the Quasi-War, The Barbary Wars and the War of 1812. ALS signed “I. Chauncey,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 8 x 10, September 17, 1835. Handwritten letter, in part: "On my return to this city last Monday…I was first in possession of your letter of the 27th ulto. I regret that I have not had the leisure to furnish…details respecting my early life…I hope to see you in New York by the last of next week. Mrs. Chauncey is well and my daughter much improved." Affixed by its left edge to a same-size sheet and in fine condition.
