Uncommon winner’s medal issued for the “1979 World Luge Test,” a trial event held in preparation for the upcoming Lake Placid 1980 Winter Olympics. Gilt-plated bronze, 51 mm, 72 gm, made by the Medallic Art Co. The front shows the Olympic rings below a mountain design surrounded by rays of light, the inside containing a snowflake and raised text, “Lake Placid”; and the reverse is engraved “1979 World Luge Test, Doubles.” The edge is stamped “Bronze.” Includes its original red-white-and-blue ribbon.
