Description

Pope, born Giacomo della Chiesa (1854-1922), who reigned from 1914 to 1922. Maintaining strict neutrality during WWI, he advanced several peace proposals and did much to aid war victims. Exceptional apostolic benediction signed “Benedictus P.P. XV,” one page, 18 x 26.25, August 26, 1917. An oversized apostolic blessing for “S. Maria Maddalena a Omaha,” featuring a calligraphic inscription and a large affixed portrait of Pope Benedict, who adds a handwritten endorsement in Italian below. In very good to fine condition, with staining to the top edge of the mount, and moderately heavy silvering to the image.
