Addressed from Washington, D.C., a handwritten letter to Jefferson Davis, then serving as the U.S. Secretary of War, in full: “Sir, I take the pleasure in introducing my friend to you, Judge A. Parker of N.Y. and to commend him to your favorable notice. The judge was formerly a M. C. and for several years he has held a seat on our Sup. Court Bench.” In fine condition, with light creasing.
Amasa Junius Parker (1807-1890) was an attorney, politician, and judge from New York. He is most notable for his service as a member of the New York State Assembly (1834), a U.S. Representative (1837-1839), and a justice of the New York Supreme Court.
