Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 16 x 13.5, June 3, 1858. President Buchanan appoints James A. Kennedy as "Justice of the Peace, in the county of Washington in the District of Columbia," Neatly signed at the conclusion in ink by President Buchanan and countersigned by Secretary of State Lewis Cass. The crisp white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with splitting along the intersecting folds, and light seal-related toning touching the signature.
