Superb vintage semi-glossy 7.5 x 7.75 silver gelatin photo of William Saroyan in profile, smoking, seated, and typing at a small folding table next to a piano and in front of a large window with an ocean view, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "For Goddard Lieberson—music and words, or talk (from me, that is) from the writer by the sea—I can't figure it out, either—thanks, Bill Saroyan, Sept. 1953, NY hah hah.” Reverse bears a Dan Weiner photography stamp issued as print No. B-2. In fine condition, with trimmed edges, and light crazing to the emulsion.
Goddard Lieberson (1911-1977) was the president of Columbia Records from 1956 to 1971, and again from 1973 to 1975. He became president of the Recording Industry Association of America in 1964.
