Businessman, railroad executive, and industrialist (1823-1881) who served under Lincoln as assistant secretary of war, overseeing the Union's use of railroads during the Civil War. He became the fourth president of the Pennsylvania Railroad, which became the largest publicly traded corporation in the world, and mentored Andrew Carnegie. Partly-printed DS, one page, 11.5 x 7.5, November 2, 1874. Stock certificate for 1000 shares in the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, signed at the conclusion in ink by Scott as its president. The certificate features a fine vignette of two stallions and a bald eagle. The original receipt remains affixed to the left side. In fine condition.
