American diplomat, journalist, and novelist (1891-1967) known for his special mission to negotiate with Lenin on behalf of the Paris Peace Conference. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, February 4, 1954. Letter to Hermann Lutz of the Hoover Institute, in full: "The full text of my letter of resignation is contained in the hearings of the Foreign Relations Committee of the United States Senate on the Treaty of Versailles in September 1919. The volumes must be available to you in the Hoover Library. If not, you may be able to find the text of my letter in a small book which contained the simply excerpts from my testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, published under the title of The Bullitt Mission to Russia. That volume was published at the end of 1919 or at the beginning of 1920 by B. W. Huebsch, publishers in New York. If you can not get the authentic text from either one of these volumes, please let me know." In fine condition.
