Partly-printed DS, one page, 11 x 8.25, July 15, 1922. Stock certificate for 1000 shares in the Oklahoma Oil Corporation issued to G. W. Woolley, signed at the conclusion by Getty as the company's president and countersigned by H. M. Hoffnagle as secretary. The highly decorative certificate boasts an ornate border with vignettes of oil fields, derricks, and spouting petroleum. Embossed with a gold seal to lower left. In fine condition, with a tiny tear to upper right margin and a red ink cancelation to the signature.
J. Paul Getty's father, George, got his start in the Oklahoma oil industry in the early 1900s, and this company evidently formed part of the family's growing oil empire. The famously frugal industrialist founded the Getty Oil Company in 1942, and by 1957 had become the richest living American. He used his massive wealth to assemble a priceless collection of art and antiquities, which formed the basis of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
