Belgian author (1903-1989) best known for his Inspector Maigret detective novels. Two uncommon books signed by Georges Simenon:
An uncorrected proof of Maigret and the Yellow Dog, 5.5 x 8.25, published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich in 1987, softcover with plain blue wrappers, signed and inscribed on the half-title page in blue ink, “To Matthew Stiller, with all my best, Georges Simenon, Lausanne, 1988.”
A very uncommon advance uncorrected proof of Maigret Sets a Trap, 8 x 13.75, published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich in 1955, elongated softcover with red wrappers and repeating “HBJ” monogram logos, signed and inscribed on the title page in ink, “For Matt Stiller, Georges Simenon, 1989.” The front cover bears an affixed publisher’s label. In overall fine condition, with spine creasing and light cover wear to the 'Trap' book. The latter advance proof, very clearly made for a limited distribution, is quite rare and is the only example of this early vintage proof that we have encountered.
