Description

American actor and boxer (1914-1972) remembered for the film Detour and Club Havana, his tryst with actress Barbara Payton, and for the alleged murder of his wife, Gale Bennett. Two items: a vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 studio portrait of Neal holding a pipe, signed and inscribed in purple fountain pen, "Best wishes always Mary, from, Tom Neal"; and a TLS signed "Tom," one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, April 13, 1940, addressed to Mary, in part: "I do hope you will enjoy my latest pictures: 'Courageous Dr. Christian,' an R.K.O. release, and 'Andy Hardy Meets a Debutante,' M-G-M'? How did you like the photograph, I sent you?" In overall very good to fine condition, with an area of creasing to the right of Neal's head.
