Middleweight boxer of the bare-knuckle era (1847 -1918) whose career spanned from 1866 to 1891. He was known as 'The Professor' because he was an advocate of the science of boxing and he would later become one of the foremost teachers of the sport. Scarce ALS, one page, 5 x 8, July 11. Addressed from Brooklyn, New York, a handwritten letter to Mr. Dobson, in full: “John W. Fallon the Amateur Heavy Weight Boxer & Patsy Brennan had a scientific glove contest. Fallon won easy by a dozen points in less than nine minutes.” In fine condition, with a small stain to the upper right corner.
