TLS signed “Alfred Worden,” one page, 8 x 10.5, NASA letterhead, May 8, 1973. Letter to Anthony Polidoro, responding to an inquiry about the Airborne Science Program. In part: "The Airborne Science Program is being conducted at Ames which utilizes aircraft to carry scientific instruments above the surface of the Earth. These scientific instruments are designed or I should say are being developed to give us information about the surface of the Earth, the Oceans and the atmosphere in which we live. I think we all agree that two of the major problems facing humanity today are: The efficient use of the natural resources remaining and the elimination of environmental pollution. The Airborne Science Program is developing the tools necessary to control and analyze both our natural resources and the pollution. I do fly here at Ames, both in the Airborne Science Program, Astronomy Program and for my own proficiency. We have a variety of aircraft of which I fly the T-38 and the Lear Jet. The Lear Jet is mostly used for Airborne Astronomy. All of the experiments that we conduct here at Ames will eventually be used in the Space Shuttle." In fine condition.
