Partly-printed DS as president, signed “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 21 x 16, February 9, 1880. President Hayes appoints Speed S. Fry of Danville, Kentucky, as "Supervisor of Census for the Third Census, District of Kentucky." Signed at the conclusion by President Hayes and countersigned by Secretary of the Interior Carl Schurz. In very good to fine condition, with light staining and creasing, splitting along the intersecting folds, and Schurz's signature quite light but still legible.
