Description

Beautiful 40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition of The Last Waltz, celebrating the universally acclaimed Martin Scorsese documentary of The Band’s farewell concert at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, California, on November 25, 1976. Attractively bound in red leather with gilt titling and borders to the front cover and spine, this limited edition set, one of 2,500 copies worldwide, measures 3.5″ thick and contains a full reproduction of Scorsese’s original shooting script, which includes the following sections: “The Concert: Breakdowns with Camera and Shot Notes by Martin Scorsese,” “MGM Soundstage: Breakdowns and Storyboards by Martin Scorsese,” “Interview Transcripts: Annotated by Martin Scorsese,” and “Additional Interview Transcripts.” The edition also includes an array of set designs by Boris Leven, over 30 photos from the concert, and four CDs and two Blu-ray discs containing audio and footage of the documentary concert. Includes its original 16.5 x 4 x 10 cardboard box, which bears tape and a gouge to the lid. In mint condition.

Once the film was complete, Scorsese had two copies of the script bound in a red leather book; one copy for himself and the other a gift to Robbie Robertson, which now resides at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On Thanksgiving Day 1976, The Band took the stage for the very last time at the Winterland Theatre in San Francisco. The concert, aptly billed as The Last Waltz, has become one of the most revered performances of all time. For the show, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, and Robbie Robertson were joined by an all-star group of music pioneers, including Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Ronnie Hawkins, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, and Neil Young, among others. The evening was captured on film by director Martin Scorsese. Released theatrically in April 1978 to critical acclaim, ‘The Last Waltz’ is still considered by many to be the greatest concert film ever made.
