Scarce laminated “Access All Areas” backstage pass for the Grateful Dead’s 1979-1980 Tour, 3.25 x 2.25, featuring the band’s ‘skull and lightning bolt’ logo with patriotic bubble lettering, marked as “September ‘1979’ Tour Only,” issued to Susan Klein, and authorized in felt tip by tour promoter John Scher. In fine condition.
Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Klein, who writes: “While working for Ren Grevatt Associates, the boutique NYC music PR firm subcontracted by Arista Records to promote the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band during 1979-1980, my responsibilities included maintaining the backstage guest list for large venues like Madison Square Garden, shepherding journalists to band members for backstage interviews, and guiding media and news crews who might be filming the band’s soundcheck or segments of the concert. In this capacity I amassed a few All-Access laminated badges, which were created by the tour promoters (in this case John Scher) in advance of an extended tour."
