ALS, one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, August 23, 1903. Addressed from Buzzards Bay, a handwritten letter sent to former Massachusetts Congressman John E. Russell, in full: “You cannot know how delighted Mrs. Cleveland and I were to read your exceedingly hearty letter of congratulation. Somehow it seemed like hearing an old and loved voice. The advent of our second son has made us very happy; and our happiness is much increased by your appearance in the circle of those friends who still affectionately remember us. We hope we may take your letter as a sign that your health is greatly improved—to the relief of your friends, and to your renewed comfort and contentment. You will be glad to hear that the mother and son are getting on finely. We have had a delightful vacation here; and we surely regret it that so much of it has already passed away. How I would like to have an old fashioned talk with you. Mrs. Cleveland sends affectionate messages to both you and Mrs. Russell; and you know how heartily I am.” In fine condition.
