Official Rawlings American League (Brown) baseball signed just off center of the sweet spot in black ink by Ronald Reagan, with another hand adding an inscription above, "To Ted Williams." In fine condition.
Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the consignor, a former presidential appointee to Reagan, who states: "After President Reagan left the White House, I was contracted by Ted Williams to assist him with the public relations for the opening of the Ted Williams Museum in Florida. To help promote the museum, I contacted President Reagan and arranged to have him sign a baseball for the Museum addressed to Ted Williams. A Board Member for the Ted Williams Museum, Mr. Lewis Watkins, traveled with me to California to see the President.
When the President signed the first ball, the signature was not in the sweet spot. The President’s Assistant at the time mentioned that she thought it should be signed in the ‘sweet spot’ for the museum and suggested that he signed for another one. Fortunately, I had taken along 2 balls, just in case. At that time, I pulled out the second ball, asked the President to sign and directed him to the ‘sweet spot.’ He signed it and the representative for the museum was satisfied. That ball sits in the museum today. I asked the President if he minded if I kept the ball he had already signed. He was agreeable. Laughed and handed it to me. I have had that ball in my possession ever since.” Also includes a photo of the letter Reagan sent to Williams, congratulating him on his museum.
