President Coolidge appoints Merlin O’Neill as “Lieutenant in the Coast Guard of the United States.” Signed at the conclusion by Calvin Coolidge and countersigned by Secretary of the Treasury Andrew W. Mellon. Gold foil seal remains affixed to lower left corner. In fine condition, with small tape stains along the extreme edges. Merlin O'Neill (1898-1981) served as the tenth Commandant of the United States Coast Guard from January 1, 1950 to June 1, 1954.
