British newspaper and publishing magnate (1865-1922) who, as owner of the Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror, was an early developer of popular journalism, and he exercised vast influence over British popular opinion during the Edwardian era. World War I-dated TLS signed “Northcliffe,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal British War Mission letterhead, July 6, 1917. Letter to George T. Wilson, in full: "You are always friendly to lonely Britons, and I have now to thank you for your kindness in making me a member of the Bankers Club during my official visit here. I hope to meet you at an early date.” In fine condition, with some light soiling to the lower blank area.
